Last week, while taking a shower, I couldn't stop thinking of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon with a santa hat on. Then the words: Minimalist Christmalist popped into my head. And then I told Michael to get the four-track ready, and so he did & we recorded Minimalist Christmalist in an afternoon.
Song 1. is "Season's End." Michael's really good at adding these little flourishes in our recordings. When he busted out this old 80s Casio, I was thinking, "God, no." But then he worked his magic and now following the bridge of this song, is the most wonderfully lonesome Casio moment. Thank God for Michael.
Song 2. is "Der Knockenmann." Apparently, I can't dream, think, draw or sing without some kind of spooky thing emerging.
Song 3. is a little ditty, "Caprimulgus." The latin name for Nightjar is Caprimulgus. Michael & I grew up in our own little worlds loving the song "Greensleeves."
Song 4. Michael covering the Kinks' "Strangers." Yes.
Song 5. "Lost on You (Merry Christmas)." Michael wrote & performed this for me on Christmas morning. After this song, we ate Harvey's pork pies. Michael put a sunny-side up egg on his, and I drizzled maple syrup over mine. Pork pies & songs written for you make the coziest Christmas mornings.
