Someone divine if there's a decent paying job for me and/or Michael in the near future --

I have $23.32 in my checking account.

Yup.

And yet I'm still looking at Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and thinking, "$1350 for a puppy... hmm... could I save that much by the end of the year?" Priorities.

Strange thing: I have been silently wishing for little things & then, very unexpectedly, receiving them.

To name a few:

1. bean soup
2. glasses cleaner rag
3. pet-sitting at Marla's
4. chocolate covered fruit
5. pizza

It seems silly, but I'm hoping this could mean that the teaching assistant job I've been wishing for & am now applying to will come true!

Dreams & Real Dreams

Right now, I am looking out the window at the sun setting behind the horses & trees in Lee, New Hampshire. This place is one of my all-time favorite places in the world. It's got horses, chickens, big dogs, small dogs, a cat named Boots Ann whose meows are like demon sounds. It's got a small old family cemetery tucked into a stand of pines in the center of the large pasture. It's got a sustainably built, yurt-looking pre-fab house. It's got fresh eggs, fresh herbs, fresh veggies. It's got lots of different kinds of teas and strange crackers from Trader Joe's that I would not normally purchase. It's messy & clean in all the right, lived-in, home ways.

I can't wait until I have my own homestead farmstead someday!

Season's End/Minimalist Christmalist

Last week, while taking a shower, I couldn't stop thinking of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon with a santa hat on. Then the words: Minimalist Christmalist popped into my head. And then I told Michael to get the four-track ready, and so he did & we recorded Minimalist Christmalist in an afternoon.

Song 1. is "Season's End." Michael's really good at adding these little flourishes in our recordings. When he busted out this old 80s Casio, I was thinking, "God, no." But then he worked his magic and now following the bridge of this song, is the most wonderfully lonesome Casio moment. Thank God for Michael.

Song 2. is "Der Knockenmann." Apparently, I can't dream, think, draw or sing without some kind of spooky thing emerging.

Song 3. is a little ditty, "Caprimulgus." The latin name for Nightjar is Caprimulgus. Michael & I grew up in our own little worlds loving the song "Greensleeves."

Song 4. Michael covering the Kinks' "Strangers." Yes.

Song 5. "Lost on You (Merry Christmas)." Michael wrote & performed this for me on Christmas morning. After this song, we ate Harvey's pork pies. Michael put a sunny-side up egg on his, and I drizzled maple syrup over mine. Pork pies & songs written for you make the coziest Christmas mornings.
